Interview Do's and Don'ts
Interviewing requires that you remember that there are at least two interviews going on in every interview session. "Yours and the Interviewers."
Below is a series of 12 key points that are simply the keys to any interview session.
Preparing for an interview: The Do's & Don'ts
There are six major tasks that must be accomplished in every interview.
1. Present your candidacy as a "reward, not as a risk."
2. Know well; who you were, are, and will be.
3. Have 5 key word adjectives predetermined that describe you best professional.
4. Practice both your questions and answers prior to any interview.
5. Ask for the job or the "next step" at least 3 times during every interview situation.
6. Remember, follow-up is as important as any other part of the interview scenario.
The 6 major admonitions are:
1. Only answer what is asked, and pull conversation back to your talking points.
2. Always stay positive. About your old employer, their crew, your old product and client base. Do not go or allow yourself to be pulled negative at anytime.
3. Only focus on the hiring authority's needs, yours do not matter unless they coincide with the company's.
4. Never sell yourself short, but always be realistic. If you cannot ride, shoot, and rope cattle, do not claim to be able to do so. Sometimes proficiency in riding is good enough.
5. Do not get lulled in to a social visit call as opposed to a "solution sales call" for ever interview, be it formal or informal, phone or face-to-face.
6. Only supply references if an offer is pending. Your references are too important to use frivolously.
